the story of 2018 was climate change

The story of 2018 was climate change… or was it?

2018 was the year I finally woke up to the real impact our recent human history has had on the environment, especially climate change, and the fact that our political leaders weren’t going to actually do anything about it, or worse, even believe it was happening. The proverbial “straw” was President Trump and his administration pulling out of the Paris agreement. For others, it was the ravenous, destructive impact of the weather that opened their eyes. Whatever led us to wake up, we are up and we are determined to make changes to our lifestyle, to protect our planet and its resources.

As David Leonhardt mentions in his Opinion article in the New York Times: “I worry that our children and grandchildren will one day ask us, bitterly, why we spent so much time distracted by lesser matters.

The story of climate change in 2018 was complicated — overwhelmingly bad, yet with two reasons for hope. The bad and the good were connected, too: Thanks to the changing weather, more Americans seem to be waking up to the problem.” For the full NYT article, click here

Hope and a lot of work ahead

Yes, lots of us are aware and making changes to reduce our impact, but there is still much work to be done. Our habits are so ingrained in us that it is very hard to make a quick change. Change impacts people’s lives and can lead to much backlash without the knowledge needed to make real change.

At Rebel Buda, we are in our own personal quest to lead a more sustainable lifestyle. We are not ashamed to say we have a lot to learn. Our commitment though won’t waiver and we will use this blog to share what we learn, to share articles that help us better understand what is going on and what we can do to make a change for us, for future generations.

Let’s rebel for change! Will you join us?
